DescriptionI love this image. To me it embodies everything special about master Olivier Coipel's newer work starting with Unworthy Thor. The inking is superb: close inspection is rewarded with sumptuous crosshatching balanced with form-defining blacks. White is used to both delicately highlight and show energetic motion. A suspenseful V-shaped composition starts from the lightsaber hilt, downward through Vader's helmet and right hand, then back up through the left and cape. The ground shakes as the Sith Lord gathers dark side power from outstretched hands, with his Michelangelo-esque nemesis striking from above. A magnificent scene, worthy of the Death Star's Sistine Chapel. I love that Olivier chose to draw Vader looking slightly over his shoulder, in a dynamic action stance atypical of the stiff costume poses shown on screen. As a child I always wanted to see Vader bust loose, and now I own my wish. Ah, the beauty of comics! Thanks Kwan & Olivier! Social/Sharing |

That V shape of power coming from the ground is speactacular. We can see Vader is summoning the dark side with all his might by just the pose Coipel put him in!

Stunning work as we're used to seeing from Olivier. He's able to portray so much dynamic energy in his art, absolute masterclass in illustration.

Was wondering when you would post this stunner. Olivier does sucah a great star wars image, and this one is even better than his usual high bar. Definitely a wall power piece.

Great Contrast of the edge sharpnes of the figures and the soft edges of the powerful explosions

After I bought the cover I read the whole series and was pleasantly surprised. Vader already has a perfect "villian redeemed" arc so I'm usually skeptical but solid series. Thanks for the kind words!
