DescriptionFinal full page splash to the Joker graphic novel. No characters... just a bridge over the river to close out this epic Joker story by Azzarello and Bermejo. ... or at least that's what I thought the first time (and probably subsequent times) that I read this story. However, sometimes it pays off to pay closer attention to the details and actually look at the art before flipping the book closed. Now that I am aware of what is going on in this page it has changed my perspective of the entire story. I knew the story had a tragic ending, but I did not originally notice his silhouette gracefully plunging through the skyline. RIP. One of only 3 full page splashes in the GN. Sometimes "simple" is better and more powerful. A very poetic ending to one of my all-time favorite stories. Social/Sharing |

Most of the time, I feel that any piece of art would have a better home in my collection than anyone else's. But in this particular case, I have to concede that this page has found the right home. Only three splashes in this epic story. And three different owners. Welcome to the club. Thanks for picking this up, and enjoy it with my very best wishes.

Definitely a good home.
Marcus, I'm a little bit disappointed at the missed opportunity for a "splash" page joke or the usual humor, but as always, I'm very grateful for the comment and in this case the compliment. 🙏🏻 Thank you sir! Much appreciated.

That's so interesting Daryl, because I distinctly remember thinking, "Oh shit, he took a swan dive off the brindge!" as soon as I turned to the last page. The composition was perfectly designed so that even at that tiny size, the eye would be pulled towards him. However, I can see how in the first split second that you notice the last page is just a distance shot of the bridge and cityscape, you may not bother to look at it and just close the book immediately. In a way though, it can also be a cool feeling to notice a detail like that years later, because the "Oh, shit!" factor remains whether you notice immediately or only after the tenth read! Congrats on the acquisition.

Ruben, unfortunately I have to agree with you because you are 100% correct that the composition of the page is designed to draw the focus to Jonny. However, I do not recall noticing this detail until several years later. Perhaps I was fixated on "THE END" which is so prominently proclaimed, or perhaps I quickly returned to the action of the preceding pages which are so spectacular in the final sequence. I realized Jonny's fate was probably not so great after he was shot through the neck/throat, but this last page clearly shows his final state. Then again, I never claimed to be the most attentive observer or astute reader of comics. 😉

In an epilogue comment:
Bermejo dials up classic crime noir and tenders a closing statement that is paid in full with Frost's life. Every section of this splash should be carefully scanned and slowly uploaded to be processed and checked. This last flip of the page brings sorrow that lingers for anyone who ever wanted to break into the big leagues, but it was never in the cards to begin with.

Now how could I not comment as the owner of the of the first splash fron this book? It is still surprising to me that there are only 3 splash pages in the entire GN. Congrats on getting this amazing page.
