DescriptionOf the Absolute DC titles so far, Wonder Woman has been my favorite. This is an alternate universe Wonder Woman, and this is most evident with her almost heavy metal character design (which normally isn't in my wheelhouse)- she has a giant sword, rocks arm tattoos, and rides a skeletal Pegasus. As cool as she looks, the emotional beats in the story have been fantastic, which is no surprise when Kelly Thompson is writing it. Easily my favorite DC superhero book right now.I almost didn't go to C2E2 this year until I saw Dan was going to be a guest (not that it was announced anywhere on the show site), and I couldn't pass up an opportunity to see him again and maybe pick up another piece of art. He (un)fortunately still had several nice pieces available when I stopped by his table on Saturday, and this cover stood out once I saw it. Yes, it features Absolute Wonder Woman, but there's a dark, gritty atmosphere to the piece that I don't really associate with his DC work but fits the character perfectly. The arm tattoos were added digitally, but I love the pose/expression that Dan chose here, like she barely worked up a sweat killing one monster and is waiting for an actual challenge. Thanks, Dan (and Eddy)! Social/Sharing |

First of all, love the cold stare. But what I really like about this is her stature. As a female character, I get the temptation to try and make her this slender, statuesqe, long-limbed, lingerie model, barbie doll type. This more "stocky" stature is really more suited for a warrior woman. It makes for an edgier character who doesn't look like she's posing for a photo shoot. Great piece!

Agreed, Absolute WW is leagues about the rest, just like Dan Mora. The energy he brings in his work is what DC needs. Love Dan's take here on an already excellent costume design. Nice pickup!

She's a big butcher of monsters from hell! That sword seems to grow bigger when the challenge becomes bigger! Lots of confidence and poise by Mora!

5th printing alone for the #1 says a lot about the quality of the book, and what a gorgeous cover this is. congrats!

So nice to see a Wonder Woman who doesn't look like a Victoria's Secret model. So nice to see a world-weary woman whose expression tells us that she's tired and she's sad and yet...she's ready to battle again if necessary. Fabulous cover by the very talented Dan Mora. I like this new take on Wonder Woman. I can't wait to see where they're headed next. Great pick-up, congrats!
