Description"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!" Every time I buy a Paul Smith piece, I swear it will be my last one ever. But in the most recent drop in Paul's online store, Steven Ng managed to acquire a spectacular Dr. Doom that I coveted.Luckily, I had a Kitty Pryde & Lockheed piece from Smitty that he wanted. One trade later, the once and future monarch of Latveria is in my collection. Thank you to Steven for trading with me. I think Victor is shouting, "This Land is Mine!" Social/Sharing |

Yeah, I think Doom is probably about as iconic as it gets for Marvel villains. I mean, he may not represent what the Joker represents to DC. But I think that's only because Marvel created so many really, really, great villains. Sadly, if you polled most fans today, Venom would probably come out on top. But I'll take Victor Von Doom any day! Great job by Smitty!

I agree, Eric. When Jim Shooter had to pick the ultimate villain for Secret Wars, there could only be one choice -- Dr. Doom. Doom is Marvel's Lucifer -- magnificent and damned. And I would demand a recount in any poll where Venom came ahead of Doom!

It's the look of victory from Marvel Super-Heroes #20 with his origin story! A harrowing recap of his origins before meeting Reed Richards and the accursed FF with a dash of lost love and regrets.

Here comes Marcus with his encyclopedic knowledge of the Marvel Universe! Marvel Super-Heroes #20 is a very deep cut, indeed. And, of course, the perfect reference to this piece. Thank you for the comment, Marcus!

Another fantastic Smitty add, A K, replete with the requisite elbow and knee joint "accommodations" any classic portrait of Latverian Monarch must sport! And the way Doom's head is tilted here, and the almost frantic look of pure joy that is twisting the mask here can only mean something absolutely terrible has befallen our heroes. Doom has gone off the deep end here, and it is a joy to behold!
Every new Paul Smith piece you post makes it more and more abundantly clear to me that I don't believe there could be anything he could draw that I wouldn't find utterly enchanting. Terrible sentence there, but GREAT piece! Congrats, A K!

Thank you, my friend! Based on your sharp observations, I agree Doom has gone off the deep end. Has anyone seen the Fantastic Four lately?

I was very fortunate with this trade; luckily the counterparty was also equally happy with the piece he received. Thank you very much for the comment! Your Wolverine covers collection is astounding.

Fantastic Dr. Doom!! Smith is so good, and this is a perfect example of why. I love the classic arms raised pose, and I can picture him screaming a multide of different things! Congrats on this.

Thank you, Eric! One thing I love about Smitty is that he always challenges himself and never tries to avoid a tricky pose, just because he can. I've seen other artists screw this pose up. But in Paul's hands, we have something grand and intimidating.
