DescriptionAs a hockey player, from a hockey family, with kids who play hockey, this is great to have up on the wall in our home. The mental checklist of the gear bag, and taping up your stick to overcome pre-game jitters is a universal theme for a player. So cool! The provided note to Heritage from the consingor: "Charles Schulz grew up in Minnesota playing and loving hockey. As a successful world-famous cartoonist, living in California, Charles built and owned a large indoor ice rink in Santa Rosa, California, which opened in April of 1969 and was named Redwood Empire Ice Arena, but affectionately known as "Snoopy's Home Ice." The Arena had a retail Pro Shop that featured Cooper brand hockey equipment. Cooper was the world's leading hockey equipment brand with 70% market share globally. So Charles Schulz was a large customer of [...their...] family business, Cooper Canada Ltd. Schulz remained a hockey fan and played senior's hockey throughout his adult life. He was also a major supporter of senior's hockey by hosting the world's largest Senior Hockey Tournament at his arena. During the 1970s and 80s there was a regular exchange of correspondence between Charles Schulz and Jack Cooper of Cooper Canada. On the occasion of Jack's 75th birthday in 1987, Charles sent Jack this original, signed Peanuts cartoon with a hockey theme in appreciation for the relationship." These Sunday strips are huge, at 22.25" x 14.75". The personalized and inscribed message says "Mr. Jack Cooper, with every best wish - Charles M. Schulz". So cool to get a piece tied to two (non-player) members of the Hockey Hall of Fame! Social/Sharing |

I feel like someone should get called for roughing, and it shouldn't be me. It wasn't cheap...

Really great Snoopy centric Sunday. The Hockey theme is beloved by Schulz and you get the sense of that in this strip. As someone who visited the musem, I found the ice rink to be just as informative about his passions as the displays and Schulz's studio in the main museum.

So glad the inscription is documented. Who knows how many personalized signatures simply put as "To Jack" have as much meaning that is now lost. A great story strip, and story behind the story.
