DescriptionEtrigan the Demon is one of my favorite Kirby creations. I mean, how’s this for a character history? Etrigan is the son of the demon lord Belial, who was imprisoned inside Jason Blood—a knight from Camelot—as a punishment by his half-brother Merlin, thereby rendering Blood immortal, who then wanders the ages fighting hell-spawn as a demonologist. Now THAT is an origin story! I really dug how he looked like a good guy to the baddies and a bad guy to the do-gooders. And he only speaks in rhymes while in demon form, too. Just a great character all around. This page comes from Val Semeiks run on The Demon, which I loved as a teenager. His wild imagination and cartoony style worked really well with Etrigan’s hellish storyline. Etrigan makes short work of one demon, then faces off against his main foe, Klarion the Witch Boy, another fantastic Kirby creation. He’s a little kid filled with nothing but evil and magic. When it gets a bit hairy, Klarion calls in Tenzin Wyatt to fight the Demon, since Teekl, his cat familiar, is tangling with Lobo. Yep, I said Lobo. I’m really happy to get my hands on a page from this run. Thanks, Bechara. Social/Sharing |

Yeah that is quite the origin story. Really like this page. Especially how that fourth panel catches you completely off guard as Klarion goes from looking like a scared little boy to fwashing Etruscan with his eyes. That's right, fwashing. Is that Tenzin Wyatt in the last panel? Is that Klarion's demon dog? Must read this series...

Yeah, that would be perfect onomatopoeia for that moment :). That's Tenzin Wyatt, or to be more correct, his tulpa (mental creation) that causes his actual body to enter a catatonic state. I figured it might be a bit much to get into all that in the description. I would definitely recommend this series for a read, it's a fun/bizarre series. Thanks, Paul.

I haven't read a lot of Demon, as I'm not much into supernatural characters, but I HAVE always quite enjoyed reading him whenever he has appeared as a guest star in other people's titles. I also read the 6 issue Hell is Earth mini-series a couple of years ago, which was quite a decent read. While I never collected this series, I did always flip through it just because I'd been a Semeiks fan when he was on Conan, and always thought this was a nice looking book.

Val is a superb artist and this page shows why. It's dynamic, well constructed and even a bit scary. I love it!
