DescriptionFrank Frazetta - Johnny Comet 3-17-1952The strip had a built-in racetrack pedigree in Indy 500 veteran Peter De Paolo as technical adviser (though billed as author), and a wealth of mysterious stories by Hollywood screenwriter Earl Baldwin. This strip emphasizes Frazetta's interests in the great automobiles of the era, in this case a beautiful '49 Ford Sunliner "shoebox" convertable. Ink and Zipatone over graphite on Bristol board. The 21.25" x 6" image area was one of the early, larger boards that Frank worked on, with the size of the strips being reduced later in March of '52. Signed in panel 2, a "self portrait" that was also the back cover to the Johnny Comet comic book. I've always wanted an example from this series and feel really blessed to add this one to my collection. Social/Sharing |

Handsome portrait in the center. It might be the smallest panel. but it's placement shows Frazetta's pride in it.

Great looking strip...I love Frazetta's cars...I am not sure many would have said that but I think they are so well done and become a character when he incorporates them into this strip. Nice portrait in the second panel.
