Description

Throughout my entire history of commissioning art, I have never had an experience quite as extraordinary as this before. It was absolutely marvellous, and I'll tell you why.

First, the piece itself is magnificent. Bekko [Võ Huỳnh Hồng Loan] has created something that transcends all my expectations. Her masterful blend of various media is breathtaking, seamlessly fusing elements in a way that challenges anything I've seen before. Mind you, it's nearly always the case that photographs fail to do artwork justice, but this is a somewhat extreme example, you really need to see this one in person.

Viewing the piece up close reveals dazzling, metallic colours, iridescent fragments, and mesmerizing details that transform from different angles. It's a truly dreamlike experience, with a depth and intricacy that defies belief. The level of detail in every component, from the eyes and lips to the hair, the ravens, and the robe, is simply astounding. This is, without a doubt, one of the most stunning representations of this character I've ever laid eyes on.

However, the second aspect of what made this experience so special is equally significant, if not more so.

Every intricate detail of this piece – from the robe's style to the headwear and the various objects within the scene – holds a wealth of historical and cultural references, and symbolic meanings. At every stage of the creative process, each design decision was accompanied by an incredibly in-depth, PhD-level research dossier that elucidated the background, significance, and meaning of the element she was bringing to life. What's more, this incredible depth was all Bekko's own initiative; I merely provided my basic vision for the character, and she transformed it into something beyond my wildest expectations.

As someone who harbours a deep fascination with history, mythology, and symbology, I found this entire experience so wonderfully enjoyable. I have learned so much through the process of the creation of this commission and have treasured the enlightening conversations that unfolded along the way. I am immensely grateful for this extraordinary journey and look forward the chance to collaborate with Bekko again in the future.

It looks huge to pack so many elements and patterns into the piece. It is just as powerful when taken in as a whole!
