Description

There's always so much to love about Martin Simmonds's creations, but it's the element of surprise�those sharp, unexpected edges�that I find myself coming back to most. You might think you know a character after seeing them reinterpreted a thousand times, but encountering Martin's work feels almost like meeting the character for the very first time. There's something truly uncanny in the way he peels back the familiar and delivers something at once recognizable and completely new.

This piece here�his vision of Morpheus�is the perfect example. All I asked him for was a winged Morpheus, and the rest was entirely him: the atmosphere, the way Morpheus envelops the other figure into sleep, the composition that gently unsettles. It's so uniquely his own. When I met him in Como this year, he had a piece with him that was decorated with human teeth [he reassured me that they weren't real� hmm�]. That sums up what I truly appreciate in his art: a willingness to go places others wouldn't. I absolutely love the outcome here. Martin's work isn't just a fresh take�it's an experience, unlike anything else out there.

Love how the wings are shaped and forms a funnel for the lighting!

The first time I saw the piece I thought the wings were protecting the figure against flames! It still feels a little like that to me.
