Description

This is the colour guide for one of my favourite pages out of the first issue of Marc Hempel and Mark Wheatley's "Breathtaker". The coloured page looks more like a painting than a colour guide [see additional images for the coloured page minus the film overlay] . Apparently [from what Marc explained to me] this is the effect of watercolour painted over blue lines.

This provides the animation look from 1990 and at the height of that style in indie books before computer colors changed the game. It works as a complete painted work that was very high prestige for the day.

Very true. And I really love Mark Wheatley's colours on Marc Hempel's lines.
