DescriptionThe X-Factor book went through a bit of a strange journey after Peter David left. The original government team was replaced by one that had an almost rotating group of odd-ball characters led by Forge. I of course was still reading and having Steve Epting on for a while didn't hurt the cause either. This splashy DPS title page had a really nice central image featuring Forge, Mystique and Polaris that I really dug and came with the nifty overlay credits as well. Bonus: a "stodgy yet sensible housewife", a "high fashion supermodel", Storm and Roma! Social/Sharing |

If Ruben is reading this - THIS is the page and this is the artist that I almost started collecting as a new obsession BEFORE @Eranga beat me to it. The art here is just so so nice. From the poses, the anatomy, the story telling and the inking. Just a fabulous DPS!

Great looking earlier work by Epting. His stuff on this book and Avengers had a clearer Kubert influence which I liked. In a lot of ways this era of Steve's work reminds me of Andy Kubert today.

It's funny because on the early Avengers run, I could never really tell where Epting ended and Palmer began. Once he migrated on to the X-books his style really popped for me. I can definitely see some of the Kubert influence (mainly Joe!) He stayed closer to realism like Poppa Kubert and away from dramatic anatomical perspective like Andy and Adam - to me that's where the separation lay. But I also love that when you see Epting - you KNOW it immediately.

Such a cool DPS! Love the cast and Forge coming in strong with the party in the back.

This DPS is so 90s, feet don't even show up until the last panel. Epting was a great replacement on this run. His style was clean, and he laid out battle scenes really well, imo. And that's really nice inking by Milgrom, too. I actually wouldn't have guessed, it looks different than his usual style to me. Great DPS. Congrats!

Sweet DPS! A lot of '90s goodness going on here. Thanks to Mystique's transformations you get a bonus of female characters. When I see the "happy little trees" in the background of a couple panels I can't help but imagine Epting watching "The Joy of Painting" with Bob Ross as he drew this page.

So much going on on this DPS, but beautifully composed! The staging and expressions really tell the story and the blacks are spotted expertly

Yeah I love the composition. It definitely helps being a comic book reader to follow the progression in the panels. I do think layouts like this would stop a noob in their tracks as they try to figure out the transitions and reading order. Just another hallmark of the 90's!

Really beautiful early Epting work, Eranga - this dude could DRAW right from the get-go - and I really like the inking by Al Milgrom here. A great, "grounded" piece that flies in the face of some of the criticisms leveled (fairly or not) against Big Two 90's art. Lovely DPS - congrats!

Well put as always, Jason! Epting definitely bucked the trend with his work in the 90's!

Gorgeous DPS by Epting and Milgrom. Love the massive central panel bracketed by smaller panels moving the story along. Forge looks almost majestic here, but then Polaris and Mystique don't look so bad either. Great pick-up!

Thanks, Bill! Majestic is a good way to describe Forge here. Those luscious locks make him almost lion-like :)

Some of my fave types of pieces, these double page spreads. Got a nice central splash (I dig some long haired Forge!) sandwiched by some sweet storytelling on each side. True '90s goodness, my man. Congrats!
