DescriptionJae's style in the 90's was so fluid and evolved extremely quickly from generic super-hero rendering to heavy Simon Bisley influence to the style we know today.I am HEAVILY partial to the Biz influence that was evident in Namor but in peak form during his X-Factor fill-in issues. By the time he did this pinup (and covers for Punisher and Classic X-Men), he was slowly refining it into what we know today without completely abandoning the berserker look - a middle ground if you will. Super happy to own this pinup and even more thrilled that it was also the published cover to a German edition! Social/Sharing |

About 25-ish years ago, I had a choice of either buying a great Byrne piece or a really spectacular Jae Lee piece. At the time, Byrne was obviously the bigger name. The Byrne piece was also twice as big, and featured multiple characters. Strangely enough, the two pieces were the same price. On the surface, it would seem like a no-brainer. But the Lee was just so phenomenal that I actually hesitated for a few minutes. Now I have never regreted that decision. But here we are some 25 years later and I STILL don't have a Jae Lee piece. As for the one that got away, I don't think I've ever seen that cover pop up anywhere. Sigh! Anyway, congrats on pulling the trigger on this beauty. Hope your luck rubs off on me and my search for the right Jae Lee piece.

Love the story even though it involves regret, Eric! And honestly, a John Byrne piece is no second fiddle. Any chance of you sharing what that Jae Lee cover was from?

I still really dig this highly stylized period of Lee's work. A real beauty!

Like a Howlett tossed out
As a mutant
We get caught berserkin'
As X Weapon
Art brush wailing, Jae was on
The right track
Got out so far that
We can't claw back
But Logan we can't
Let our hopes go down
It's tough to find out where
Dark Beast’s around
Jean’s gotta reach out
Take hold of one hand
You've gotta reach out
Till you're safe as Lee fan
You've gotta hold on
Baby got a pin up
The splatter reach out
When you've caught all the mutants I love

Gorgeous Jae Lee Chronicles piece highlighting two of the best characters to come out of the AOA and a relationship I've always been X-cited to see. Cheers on this beautiful cover AND pin-up.

This once again proves my theory that Germans love Jas Lee. And David Hasselhoff.

That is quite a cover with the claws and all. Love the shadowed splatter effect. Wolverine is taking on more of an animalistic look and it exudes ferociousness. Congrats!

This captures the wildman Wolvie is supposed to be! So good.

Glad you made it happen, man! And yeah...can totally see that "middle ground" look...and I dig it! Some top notch ink work and techniques throughout, and really like how Logan's lookin' right at the viewer. Congrats!

Memorable early Jae Lee piece, complete with heavy inks.
(and Jean seems to be enjoying her aerobic workout?)

Stunning pinup/cover by the amazing Jae Lee! Love his take on the AOA Wolverine and Jean Grey. Wolverine here is almost feral in his depiction! I love Jae's brushwork on the figures which gives the characters a restless, anxious energy! What a superb piece by the masterful Jae Lee!

What a great page. This is my favorite Jae Lee era (and it's all been great), and this is a phenomenal example of it. Congrats.
