DescriptionVery underrated, Ed Dood's Mark Trail series lasted from the mid 1940's to the 1980's, while featuring artist like Jack Davis. Besides great scenery and wholesome stories Ed Dodd had a gift with animal artistry, in this example Andy the St Bernard is yoked to a team with some dogs that don't like him. While the team is halted the dogs aren't staked and one dog goes after Andy.Almost any strip of Dodd's that features animals is highly sought after. This one is a testament to the raw energy that Dodd infused his strip with. Check out his story https://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/arts-culture/ed-dodd-1902-1991/ Enjoy! Social/Sharing |

It has all the emotion and power of a superhero book with the battle image. The raised fur from the cold and the aggresive ferocity of the attack is felt by the audience and made more amazingly powerful by the comic book style background lighting.

It's likely this one was at least partially ghosted by Ed's assistant Tom Hill who was a superior animal artist and did a lot of the heavy lifting for Dodd in this period (which is when I read it regularly in my hometown paper) Jack Elrod, who was also helping Ed and eventually took over the strip had a chunkier one weight than Tom Hill.

Benno, amazing! What other work did Tom Hill's work appear in?
