Description

In the Krakoa Era, mutants tried to be so helpful to mankind that they couldn't help but be accepted. Free medicine! But their enemies set out like Grinches to pervert the life-enhancing medications, turning them into will-sapping poisons.

In this scene, a quartet of villains fly through the city in an Orchis parody of the bathtub Fantasticar. Nimrod looks unusually relaxed in the back seat. Mister Sinister somehow stands upright while tilted 30 degrees to the left. An AIM agent drives. M.O.D.O.K. doesn't even fit in the tub but hovers beside, eager to join the mischief. Check out all the nice condos that Cassara shows inside New York's skyscrapers. He didn't forget the air conditioning units on the roofs.

I couldn't help but think about the parallels with Artificial Intelligence. Its creators thought of all the ways it could enhance corporate productivity. But the criminal element, unhampered by legal niceties, drooled over its potential for abuse and cybercrime. I heard this week that 51% of all internet traffic is now AI bots, mostly for malevolent purposes.

This issue's title "Bring on the Bad Guys" came from a 1976 Marvel mass market book reprinting the origin stories of villains like Doctor Doom, Loki, and Mephisto. It was published simply as "by Stan Lee," which was a different sort of villainy.
