DescriptionGil Kane is easily on the Mount Rushmore of GL artists for me, so wanted to get a page from early in his run. In this early 1961 classic tale, Green Lantern is summoned to the far-flung future (5700 AD) to fight Earth's highly evolved gila monsters known as the Zegors! The greatest part of the story (besides Kane's art) is that while the Zegors shoot devastating eye beams that make their opponents vanish, they also feel the need to WEAR SHORTS/BELT(?) WITH A SIDE HOLSTER for a weapon they never use the entire issue! A twice-up tour de force by Broome, Kane and Giella.Side note: This page features the same scene as the famous cover to the issue (see secondary image). This was one of a handful of DC Silver Age covers that featured Production head Jack Adler's washtone treatment over Kane's illustration. Social/Sharing |

Gil Kane is at his best here combing contemporary Sci-Fi and superhero genres! Great classic of the medium! This came out before Fantastic Four #1!

Absolute emblematic page from this run. Everything you want in a DC title from the era. Best GL with arguably the best GL artist. WOW.

Of course they had shorts and belts...the CCA wouldn't want any naked gila monsters running around..... :)
Great page!

ALways great to have the cover moment, moreso when it's a cover anybody worth their salt knows. Great get.

Green Lantern 8 is my all-time favorite silver age cover and any interior page that depicts GL fighting a Zegor is coveted. I'm happy to own page 15 but your page is substantially better. Congratulations!

Thanks Arnie,
That page 15 is great as well. Nice Zegor and GL panels. Congrats.

The black of the arms and legs had to be a great aid in reducing the time to draw the character. Gil Kane is an amazing artist residual like exhibited in the last panel with GL in flight. Giella has never been a favorite inker of mine. He always flattened the art and drove his line work. Regardless, a stunning page.

This page was emblazoned into my mind with its reprint in DC Special #20 a few months into my collecting. That spectacular middle panel of emerald energy canceling out the Zegor eye-blast never to be forgotten. And I was the perfect age that the evolved gila monsters to be a cool alien twist ...

A cornerstone of DC's Silver Age! Everything on this page spells classic, but I have a special fondness for GL's portrait in panel 2... Congrats for this gem!

Unbelievably cool Green Lantern page by Gil Kane and Frank Giella! Gil Kane's Silver Age work on titles like Green Lantern has been pretty much eclipsed by his later fame as a cover artist for Marvel during the Bronze Age . So it's nice to see some of the stuff he was doing when he was just starting out. Clearly he was already very skilled as an artist from the start. His Green Lantern is pretty much a master class in anatomy. Love seeing this page! Thanks for sharing!

Kane would say later that he didn't like Giella or Anderson inking his art. But I think Gil's best inker was in fact Giella. This is a magnificent page !
