DescriptionBORIS VALLEJO (American, b. 1941)Great piece by the master of fantasy art, Boris Vallejo. This work was part of the Chess King (popular 80s clothing retailer) advertising work he did in 1986. Fun fact, the male figure on the right was modeled after his son, Dorian Vallejo. Now an accomplished artist himself! Acrylic on board 17.5 x 26 in. Signed lower right Social/Sharing |

Beautiful mixture of Boris' fantasy painting and the hip 80's young men's fashions sold by Chess King at retail stores often found in shopping malls. They were like the Abercrombie of their time to understand what was macho and what would appeal to young men. Images of like this of handsome, virile, and rugged looks that males saw themselves as, with sexy alien babes clinging on to them created a fantasy that sold!

Thanks for the comment and I completely agree that it so well represents the 80s with the outfits and expressions. Plus a bit of that fantasy flair that Boris is known for!

I was too young to go into a Chess King. Boris' fame outlived the Chess King brand, so having some context might be helpful for those who might think it's about a book, movie, or show of guys sitting around playing chess.

Yes, fun 80s perfection. I love the Boris Chess King advertisements. I have tried but failed to get two now. Congratulations on a fun piece! Love Love Love.
