Description

A truly rare, historic, and special piece of Harvey Kurtzman artwork, that should appeal to both Comic Art and Fine Art collectors for its significance. This life drawing class sketch from the early 1940's, done in charcoal on 17.5" x 23.5" brown paper, is the earliest dated Harvey Kurtzman original art known to exist. I was informed it was featured on Page 7 of Denis Kitchen's Art of Harvey Kurtzman: the Mad Genius of Comics book, and I am showing a picture from the internet for reference. The paper is fragile and brittle at the edges, and is in Good condition. Kurtz man is 1 of the great legends from the classic EC Comics of the 1950's, having played a major part in both the war comics like Two-Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat, and the comedy publications like Panic and MAD Magazine. This is a truly outstanding and significant museum-worthy piece, from one of the most important creators in the history of the comic book medium.
