DescriptionOAX 2024 Get Well Card / Jam Sketch PieceVarious Artists & Signatures! Short story time: It's the week before OAX and I'm excited about the show. I spent the last few weeks pricing out art and organizing portfolios to bring down. It was going to be my first show selling art in person as a "vendor" alongside other collectors who coughed up cash for a table in Collector's Island/Alley. I was starting to get excited about the fun adventure ahead! Then something out of a nightmare happened. A terrible accident on ice. Several compound fractures/breaks, total ankle dislocation, multiple torn ligaments, other bumps bruises and cuts, a trip to the ER, emergency surgeries, tons of metal/hardware pieces (rods, screws, pins, plates) inserted into various parts of my right leg and ankle followed by another 4 days in the hospital, with a year long recovery process to follow. Ugh. OAX was out of the question. Suffice to say I was disappointed at the terrible timing and circumstances, but getting better ever since then has been my main focus. I am now "walking" again 4+ months later, and going to physical therapy several times a week. My strength and mobility is about 50% of what it once was (not that I was super in shape or athletic before, but it was a much better baseline). One of the things that gave me a boost and words of encouragement during the earlier phases of my recovery, was this Get Well Card / Jam Sketch Piece that arrived in the CAF care package James S put together for me! Honestly it blew me away and I certainly needed it at the time because it was dark days both physically and mentally. The kindness and generosity of the communities and people in the hobby are incredibly uplifting. The card includes sketches by multiple artists who were in attendance and signed by many collectors as well. If I didn't suck so much at reading handwriting or be too embarrassed to get any wrong I'd list them all out but to everyone who contributed its a huge THANK YOU - especially James who spearheaded the whole thing. Also - with CAF limiting you to list a maximum of 4 artists per piece, how the hell do Jam Piece collectors narrow down their pieces with more than 4 artists within them in the credits? Tough choices, for me I chose ones that I didn't already have listed in my gallery. Simple enough. Wish I could list them all, hell I don't know if I can even identify them all ;-p - besides what I listed (Adam Hughes, Manix Abrera, Bill Morrison, Mike Allred) I also see Andy and Veronica Fish, Nick Pitarra, Matt Wagner, Harvey Tolibao, Ken Lashley, and a few others (can't ID signatures though?). I could be wrong, forgive me! lol - James you will have to chime in if so. I should be at OAX 2025 next year to redeem myself somewhat, as a normal attendee without a booth is likely as I'm not sure I'd be able to handle that yet, but by then I should be in much stronger/better shape. At the very least I'll be hobbling around with a cane or something. Cya there. Social/Sharing |

50%? So that means handstand kickflips? For us mortal humans that would be a dream but for my man Kavi, it's just a easy Thursday afternoon stroll to the corner store for a loaf of bread and a box of smokes.

Haha I like the sentiment but I'm not getting anywhere near a skateboard 🛹 - I quit smoking 🚬 nearly a decade ago (thank god 🙏🏽) but the loaf of bread 🥖 still applies - sure!

Wow!! That's a wonderful piece of love from this caring community, great to see and hear the support that came in from a hard situation you had to deal with. Hopefully the continued healing is quick and easy.

This is a very nice card and nice of folks to do. I agree, signatures are sometimes hard to decipher. I've have the same problem when it's not with their art or book. My thoughts are with you as you recover. See you at OAX 2025!

I know the score like a comic art fan
Them vendor boys, OAX's a brand
They miss all I bring, I carry the crown
Nothing can break, nothing can break me down
Don't need no advice, I got a jam
I know the convention, the lay of the land
I know the score like a comic art fan
Them other joys, I'll be back again
I'm the man, come round
No-no-nothing can break, no-nothing can break me down
I'm the man, come round and
No-no-nothing can break, you can't break me down
I got gas in the tank
Still got money in the bank
And Get Well to you Kavi, you're looking at the Jam
You got friend in the James
He's got a household name
I got news for you Kavi, you're looking at the Jam

Wow Kavi, so sorry to hear about your accident, glad you are making strides with your recovery (literally) ... just an awful turn of events, but what an awesome one-of-a-kind, spirit uplifting piece that resulted from it (and so cool of James S to organize that, though knowing the caring & empathetic person he is, I'm not surprised). Keep getting better and see you at OAX 2025!

Glad to hear that your recovery continues to go well my friend.
I know that our Mets are currently doing nothing to make you feel better.
Look forward to seeing you at OAX 2025!

Haha thanks Lee, the struggle is def real to be a Mets fan. Always disappointment year after year since I was born with the exception of 86 but I was too young to really appreciate it back then. 2000 and 2015 gave me hope but it was almost worse to get so close and have it ripped away - it's ok though will remain loyal for life LGM!!
