DescriptionThe Myth Of 8-Opus Convention sketchArt (pencils) by Tom Scioli This late 90s/early 2000s convention sketch (presumably, based on the geocities URL hand written at the top ha) by Tom Scioli of 8-Opus was a freebie/gift thrown into a deal by a friend of mine when I bought his small collection of Comic Magazine sized issues awhile back (Eerie, Creepy, Vampirella, and other Warren Mag stuff mostly). "The Myth of 8-Opus" was a 5 issue self published creator owned series written and illustrated by Tom Scioli. I believe it was his first creator owned project, and the 5 issues were collected into a graphic novel version. However to this day I've never stumbled into the raw comics or even the graphic novel, so I have no clue about the story. Looks like he's trying to do his best Kirby impression with the character design though! Social/Sharing |

Maybe he has psychic powers like the Magic 8-Ball?
Definite Kirby vibes.

Well, if nothing else, we can love this for the Kirby inspired art, and especially for the Geocities notation!

Scioli has these for sale at conventions, I believe. I think he might be digital only these days so to have a piece like this is rare.

Cool piece! For some reason, I read the title as "Oedipus." I wonder if there are any Oedipal themes in this book.

I believe that's the intended phrasing / pronunciation and my assumption is that there may be those themes...but until I find the issues or graphic novel I won't know for sure!

What about the Kirby way, Myth of 8-Opus
Geocities has all the Toms
Wouldn't want to leave mom out
Couldn't find a fight sketch
Yahoo can't expect Tom to
Navigate the interwebs on dial up
Those sweet comic cons
Gosh, we better go show their fans
While they cross the street

Tom is totally channeling Kirby here, whom he loves and we all love, and you can see just how good he is at it. Really cool pick up!
