Description

Original hand-drawn (penciled and inked) art for a truly outstanding and historic example of Doonesbury, the all-time classic Universal Press Syndicate newspaper comic strip written and illustrated by the legendary G.B. Trudeau. This is from December 1971, and is one of the earliest examples we are aware of coming to market. The strip began in late 1970, so 1971 is the first full year, and we have only seen a handful of strips from 1971 surface over the past 25 years (and never any from 1970). Out of the very few we have seen, we feel that without question this has the best content. It is a classic example of the legendary political satire and distinctive take on American life and politics that has made Doonesbury one of the most iconic strips in the history of syndication. The piece is done on art board measuring approximately 16 1/4" by 7 1/4". There is a little bit of waviness to the board, and the "Kill The Moderator" paste-on in the last panel has lifted up on the right side, as the glue has dried up over time, but it lets you see that the same lettering is drawn on the board underneath. This is an incredibly rare opportunity to get an example this good from this early in the run. Don't miss out on a chance to get a truly amazing piece that would look outstanding framed and prominently displayed, and would be a key piece in any collection.
