Description

Mark Buckingham wasn't the first artist on Fables, but he was the artist for the bulk of its run. I briefly owned a Fables page by Mark but never quite found the right one (or rather, the right ones are in other collectors' collections). After seeing some beautiful commissions from Mark on CAF, I decided to get one featuring my favorite Fabletown couple, Snow and Bigby. I wrestled with the specific commission idea (there are so many lovely examples of Snow hugging wolf Bigby, inspired by that iconic splash page), but once I came across Mark's initial design for Snow's wedding dress, inspiration struck- Snow and Bigby in a romantic moment on their wedding night, with her wearing the dress that Mark designed.

I was nervous about how it would turn out, but Mark absolutely knocked this out of the park. He said he had a lot of fun working on this, and it really shows. It is such a tender moment between the two, and Mark included a few other design elements to balance out the composition (the arch from their wedding, plus the pair of flower bouquets). Also, I love this alternate take on their wedding- Snow had a sleek white dress in the comic (which still looks great and fits her character), but this dress design is more visually interesting with the snowflake design. Mark mentioned that the design along the back of her dress was based on the dress his wife actually wore on their wedding, which is just a cool bit of trivia.

I've always wanted a romantic Snow/Bigby page by Mark to go with the two pages I own from their first date, and if I never pick one up, I'm more than happy with this piece since it gives me dance floor moments from their first date and their wedding night.

A classic wedding day photo of their first dance as a wedded couple! Great dress design and Snow is as elegant as ever letting it flow around her figure.
