DescriptionAs the hoards of Mothergod threaten to stop our heroes from rescuing Solar, Rai sends them on while he fights alone. Having conqured them all the big bad shows up and the fight ensues. He is able to injure Mothergod but that only leads her incenerate him. Rai dies in the fight but did what he needed to do in stalling because now Solar is free! Albert (mothergod's son) picks up Rai's sword and will use it later to stab her which will again distract her long enough for Solar to get the upper hand.Rai's death is what got me interested in Valiant Comics. But I read that death in Rai 7? The Unity crossover had many panels reused in different comics. The scene of Rai's death here is the same one used in Rai 7. I haven't seen the original page for Rai 7 but I would guess it's only a stat. Additionally if you compare either of the pages to the original you will notice Mothergod says nothing. However there are multiple word bubbles that goes on this page. During Unity there was still some question if Rai would die or not. There are unpublished pages where Rai lives. Maybe secretly Rai had some horrible kids that didnt like him like Jason Todd (If you know you know). Or maybe they decided to raise the stakes by killing off the character. Here is a fun story of a reader and his childhood Rai 7 story https://www.creekingmore.com/2019/02/19/the-death-of-rai/ Thanks to Dan for letting this one go from his collection. Social/Sharing |

Memorable death from the crossover event of the summer! Historic page!
Valiant used an incredible amount of stats (and glue LOL), which today would just be empty panels on the original art.

Very memorable! I mean, not to me since I never read this comic, but I'm sure to those who DID read it! I see that this is one of those rare artistic team-ups that didn't bother to emulate the BWS style. Drake's inking looks exactly like it did towards the end of his run on Juliet Jones, which is interesting. All hail Rai!

Shocking death page! Love those Valiant glue stains! Maybe they had them removed to keep repurposing them for the dfferent stories. Hopefully they will revisit this scene in the Unity 2000 finale.
