DescriptionWell, this is a fun one and an early Silvestri Marvel Cover!I've seen this piece posted for sale for a few years and clicked the image a dozen times. I always thought it looked good at a decent price but never pulled the trigger. Recently, a fellow collector friend let me know the gallery selling it was having a sitewide sale, and it seemed like the perfect time to finally pick it up! Stats on an overlay, and all the OA underneath looks great! What's interesting is it's dated 1986, but the issue was published in 1989. Wonder what the story is behind that? Social/Sharing |

Oh, I sold this from my dealer inventory ages ago. Definitely fun to see it again.

Great late 80's cover! Probably intended to be published earlier and stored as inventory until MCP which allowed for all kinds of stories to be published. Congrats - terrific acquisition!

Absolute beauty and really great cover piece. Iconic Havok art, by a creator really getting into his prime era. Huge congrats!

There's no story to the Dec 4, 1986 notation other than the paper stock with everything on the border printed was purchased by the Marvel offices in bulk. It is a printed on date. Anyways...
I got my first real comic
Bought it at the five and dime
Havok's what the cover said
Was the summer of '89
Marvel Presents is cool
Silvestri and Joe drew real hard
Alex and Polaris got married
I should've known his brother's the star
Oh, when I look back now
This cover seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Lord, I'd always wanna buy Lair
Those were the discounts of Cult life
Ain't no use in complainin'
When you got some art Marc drew
I spent my evenings where I reside in
And that's when price was good, yeah

I've actually noticed a few covers that have that "Dec 4, 1986" noted on the side of the page (I have two covers that were released at different times that have it - Nomad and Muppet Babies). Wonder how many other Marvel covers have it and what the story is there... way cool cover, love those MCP issues. Congrats!!

Yea he got a cool hat and can smash walls but can he take out a chicken wearing a sombrero and fishnets. Don't judge me James.

What a beauty of an '80s cover!! And I've always loved the superhero name "Havok." It implies that nothing is ever going to be neat & tidy with this guy. And this cover exemplifies that. And yeah, I have always been confused by the "Dec 4, 1986" writing on boards from this era. Someone must know. "Yo, Jimmy!!" Jimmy knows everything.
Jimmy doesn't know.
