Description

The Lake Como Comic Art Festival seemed like the perfect opportunity to get a European character from a European artist. I wasn't previously familiar with Federico Mele, but he exceeded my expectations with this moody 9x12" watercolor from his portfolio, depicting one of Italy's most popular comic book characters, a supernatural detective and his faithful sidekick. The clouded moon in the upper right corner is a cool touch. While I was at Federico's booth at Lake Como, he whipped out a head sketch of Corto Maltese as a freebie; see additional image.
