DescriptionYou know what the best thing is about being graduated and gainfully employed? I can finally start working through my mile-long list of commission ideas! First up to bat was, of course, my favourite character by one of my favourite artists. I commissioned this during one of Jeff's WhatNot streams, and it was actually my first time actively commissioning a larger piece from him!As always, Jeff delivered a fantastic final product. He asked me if I had any particular pose in mind (which I hardly ever do), so I thought fast and suggested that Brainy could be using his forcefield belt in some way. I absolutely love what Jeff came up with! I think the "shattering" effect Jeff used as the laser blasts break up against Brainy's forcefield is really cool, and also pretty unique. I also like the little detail of the tiny action lines showing that Brainy's pressing the button on his belt. And of course, his expression is perfectly on-brand - annoyed that someone is interrupting his data processing, and entirely unimpressed by their efforts. I have a lot of pencil pieces by Jeff, and a lot of full-colour marker pieces, but not much in the way of fully inked work. I think Jeff's skills as an inker really shine with this piece. I like that the folds in the fabric are clearly distinct from the shading lines, and I like how Jeff was able to use shading to pick up on parts of Brainy's anatomy (the collarbones seem like a safe example to give!). You can tell Jeff picked up some great tricks from his old inker, W.C. Carani, with how he uses rows of thin, tapering lines to blend the shaded bits with the highlights. And one last neat detail is how the laser hitting Brainy's forefield in front of his torso is lighting up that whole area of his costume. Social/Sharing |

Brainiac 5's "IDGAF what you come at me with" attitude is always appreciated haha. Congrats on the inked Jeff Moy commission (and even bigger congrats on graduating and being gainfully employed!).
