Description

A piece by my favourite artist? Featuring my favourite characters? Referencing one of my favourite parts of the Threeboot Legion??? I'm very happy with this one, for sure.

A huge thanks goes out to my friend Sean for making this pickup possible at all! He was at Baltimore Comic-Con and very kindly took the time to tell me that Barry had this piece for sale in his portfolio. I reached out via Barry's Facebook group, asking if it was available for purchase even though I wasn't at the convention myself, and it was!

I know for a fact that this is a prelim because the finished, inked piece is visible fairly high up in Barry's X (formerly Twitter) feed. It doesn't feel right to post an image of it here since I'm not the owner, but if the owner does happen to see this, and has been thinking about selling the finished piece, I'd be more than happy to give it a good home and reunite it with its prelim!

All that said, I just absolutely love this piece. I imagine the original commissioner wanted something that referenced the Threeboot storyline where, following Dream Girl's tragic death, Brainy's attempts to revive her actually end up transferring her consciousness into his own mind (and just imagine if YOUR girlfriend was living in your head 24/7, predicting the future all the time, but the only way you could talk to her was by dreaming. Brainy handles it like a champ, all things considered). Barry's pencilwork here is gorgeous, of course. This might be a prelim, but it could very well be a finished piece as-is. The hatching, crosshatching, and shading is beyond incredible, and I like how Nura's eyes are bright and clear in the background, while Brainy's are more in shadow. I think it plays into the themes of her being the true precognitive one, but the only way she can share her premonitions with the outside world is through him, now.

It's definitely one of the more well rendered prelims I've seen! So glad it worked out and you were able to contact them and land the piece!

You got a network that's as expansive as the multiverse! I think you're in everyone's mind when they see a Legion piece for sale.

I've definitely made some really good friends since getting into this hobby! It means a lot to have people looking out for you and your art interests.

Thanks, Miki! In a way, it reminds me of that fantastic LSH #11 cover by Kitson that you have in your gallery (one of my favourites, unsurprisingly)!
