DescriptionLegionnaires #23 is the beloved "Girls' Night Out" issue, and it's decidedly one of my favourites! After trying out their flight rings for the first time, Apparition rallies all the other female Legionnaires (except Saturn Girl) for a night out at the hottest new club in Metropolis. Even Andromeda tags along in an effort to become more comfortable with the team. This page takes place right after they run into Apparition's mother outside the club, who promptly drags her away. There's a lot to love about this page! I'm just a huge fan of comics (and comic art!) where characters trade their uniforms for other outfits, so having a page with the majority of the Legion girls dressed in their nightclub best is pretty spectacular. It also helps highlight how Andromeda is so distant from her teammates, since she's the only one still in uniform. This whole issue was also the beginning of the long-standing friendship between Kinetix and Shrinking Violet, as Kinetix tries to help Vi come out of her shell a bit by transforming her outfit until she finds the perfect one, and I'm very happy to own an example of one of those "quick-changes". And, since Andromeda is one of my favourite Legionnaires, I absolutely love the large image of her in the last panel. You get the sense that even though she doesn't feel at home with the Legion (and even though she might feel her loyalties lie elsewhere), there's still a part of her that wants to do her part and help others. As always, Jeff's art is full of personality! Just by reading through this one page, you get a great sense of what each character is like. It also highlights what I think is one of Jeff's best strengths as an artist, even though it's not talked about very often: he's a fantastic costume designer! I like that he kept each Legionnaire's outfit in-character, but not overly similar to their uniforms, and how he played around with the colour palettes, too. Carani's inks work perfectly to keep the characters in the foreground and background of each panel clear and distinct. Social/Sharing |

Andy breaking through that bottom panel is the best part of the page, if you ask me!

Look at those fashions! I bet Jeff Moy went to the club to do some research!
