DescriptionMay Frayn and Branko plot surreptitious public sex in the titular Hidden Spring, while on the shore, Carolyn begins to tell Nathan more about her family: (Nathan) “Our trip here has been more successful than expected, Kyowa. If you'll accompany us to the surface, we have a job to complete.” “It's still dark outside. There are a few hours until dawn. We would be happy to offer you refreshment and rest.” (Carolyn) “That's a good idea. Why don't you take a break? Tomorrow morning, I will also go back up with you, and we will return to the city together.” “That would work.” (Kyowa) “Good, so it's decided. Now let's eat, then rest.” (Branko and May play in the Great Lake.) “The water here is fantastic, isn't it?” “It's crystal clear. I’ve never seen such pure water. If all missions ended this way, I'd sign up for it!” (Pulling her close) “There might also be a better way to make the mission seem enticing…” “Branko, look around. We’re not alone here…” “Maybe. If we dive, no one will see us...” “But then we’d have to come up to take a breath.” “I'll come back up and pass the air to you with kisses. What do you say?” “I say you’re crazy…” (Carolyn sits with Nathan nearby.) “Who would have thought that Branko and May were a couple?” “They've been together for years. They also adopted a little girl named Kay. They live on a yacht moored in a port in East Coast City and, as far as I can remember, I have never seen them argue once. I think they have found great love in each other.” “Great love. Of course. It exists for some people, just as happy families also exist…” Italians love American Westerns, and the underlying story here (Arizona settlers try to take natural resources away from an Apache tribe) could easily have been told in a Western. I wonder whether it was originally envisioned for one, or if these themes just come readily to the minds of Italian writers. Social/Sharing |
