DescriptionStar Wars #70 Pg. 1 Title SplashPencils by Kerry Gammill Inks by Tom Palmer Letters by Joe Rosen Written by Mary Jo Duffy "You've never heard of the Millennium Falcon?" "Should I have?" "It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. I've outrun Imperial starships. Not the local bulk cruisers, mind you, I'm talking about the big Corellian ships now. She's fast enough for you, old man." ―Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi It's the biggest hunk of junk in the galaxy! The Millennium Falcon! This is a big pickup for me for many reasons, so I'll boil it down to a short list and not make this write up a full length novel. 1) Owning a title splash from the original Marvel Star Wars run has been a big collecting goal of mine, a grail level item on my want list. 2) The Millennium Falcon is one of the objects/settings/ships I love the most about Star Wars. It is a character within itself, and an important part of many of the main characters journeys. And this title splash is one of (if not my favorite) image of it in the entire original Marvel run. 3) Issue 70 is the only issue of Star Wars illustrated by Kerry Gammill and one of my favorite issues of the original Marvel run. According to Kerry on a post he made on his Facebook page, he did this issue 2 years before it was published as an inventory story that Mary Jo Duffy wrote (not sure exactly when Palmer did his inks). And that'll do...Chewie, we're home! Happy (and proud even) to be the first temporary caretaker of this page, after Tom Palmer and his family. May the force be with you! Issue #70: Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, R2-D2, and Luke Skywalker make their way to the planet Stenos in the Millennium Falcon, hoping to find the bounty hunter that worked with Boba Fett during the search for the Millennium Falcon. The group hopes that the search will lead to Fett, who is still in possession of Han Solo, frozen in carbonite. Both Calrissian and Chewbacca's search for Bossk and Skywalker and Artoo's search for IG-88B have led them to the same location. Lando is uneasy about both searches ending up in the same place, and he expects a double-cross. Skywalker jumps on the mention of deception and begins to recount a story about how he and Han had been double-crossed on Stenos right after they joined the Rebellion. Social/Sharing |

That's a Dino F.A.L.C.O.N. if ever there was one, and that ship cuts a fine full figure. She's got it where it counts, just like this splash. Congrats!

I love great big shots of well known aircraft in comics, though flipping through the comic book, I might not have stopped to admire this page. Remove the color however, and NOW we're talking! Great shot of one of the most famous ships in the galaxy, backed by a beautifully sip-a-toned planet, which itself is backed by classic outer space scenery! Add to that the fact that it was high on your want list and you've got yourself an absolute banger to be treasured. Congratulations, dude!

Thanks buddy, and it was fun "debuting" it on your show earlier this year - gave me a little bit of a "sharing fix" for it before waiting several more months for Star Wars month to arrive ;)

Cheat the odds that made you brave to try to Gammill at times
Well I feel like Mary Duffy sendin' sickest Tom Palmer line
Tell you why
'Cause I'm jealous, Lucas again
Thought I like that I let Luke in
Yeah, I'm jealous, Lucas again
Got no time, Kavi
Always drunk on splash page, tryin' to feel like buy Falcon
Smell the Palpatine burnin', boys out feelin' nervous and cold
Oh yeah, yeah
I'm jealous, Lucas again
Thought Jedi, I let Luke in
Stenax, Shuffle again
Lando time, Kavi
Stop, under Kerry
I ain't afraid of losin' Force faith
Stop, until Han’s free
I ain't afraid of ever losin' faith in Luke, hey

To be honest, as you know how much I love Gammill art, I don't see much of his here. First because of the subject matter as it does not leave much artistic personality to shine and second, because Palmer is so overpowering over all artists he inked (which paradoxally helped maintain consistency to SW).
AND YET, no one could deny that this is a SPLENDID show stopper of a title splash. This is the kind of art that anyone, comic lover or not, would admire hanging on your wall, so huge congrats, my friend.

A title splash devoted to one of the most iconic ships of all time? A space ship that may not be flesh and blood but is definitely a Star War character in its own right?!? Oh yeah baby, sign me up!! This is a FANTASTIC splash page, Kavi, congrats!!

Wow, Kavi!!!! When the Millennium Falcon is on a Star Wars page, it doesn't get any better but this is true Holy Grail material!! The detail and large foreground prominence make this the best Millennium Falcon page I can recall ever seeing. Congratulations!!!!

The Falcon deserves its own title page as it is just a recognizable as any of your favorite Star Wars charactors. This a a great get - congrats.

Iconic with a capital "I". That line at the top pretty much says it all. THE GREATEST SPACE FANTASY OF ALL TIME! In basketball, there's something called a sixth man. For me, that's what the Falcon means to Star Wars. After Luke, Leia, Han Chewie, R2, and 3PO, the Falcon is basically another main character. The seventh man, if you will. Congrats on this truly epic splash.

I did not see Rise of Skywalker. But my favorite thing of the Star Wars sequel trilogy was to see the Millennium Falcon again. It’s so great to see this in your collection.

You know you have a winner, when only 2 days later, someone is adding the 51st comment. I'd say this is the coolest Star Wars page 1 splash I've seen. Gammill nailed it!
Congratulations.

Beautiful shot of the Falcon flying towards a planet. Growing up in the 1980s, Marvel's Star Wars comics were one of the few places where we could get a regular dose of a galaxy far, far away. The fact that they had great artwork like this is why those stories are still so well-remembered decades later. Congrats on the awesome pickup!

Fantastic Star Wars splash page by Kerry Gammill and Tom Palmer! Who doesn't love a page that features a great big drawing of the Millennium Falcon? Wonderfully detailed ship with the title of the story drawn in perspecitive, streaming behind it, not unlike the Star Wars movie titles. Phenomenal pick-up, congrats!

Huge congrats, man! Getting a title splash from the OG series, not an easy feat, let alone one featuring one of the main CHARACTERS in the Milennium Falcon! Love the title lettering being lettered in the blast trail! Definitely happy for you with this one, Kavi, congrats!
