Description

Coughlin's composition and stark lighting on this piece are exceptional. The facial expressions and body language quickly conveying the nuances of the scene. It's simply a well conceived and executed work. While Coughlin is known primarily for his pulp and magazine covers like Detective Story, this seems likely done as an interior illustration.

The dim lighting is great at producing drama as anything that light touches is deemed by Coughlin to be worthy of examination! We are just as much on the edge of our seat wondering about the outcome of this situation.
