DescriptionBack in 1996, I commissioned Rick Geary to do a Wizard of OZ drawing for me, which Rick proceeded to knock out of the park. Over the years, I've thought that I might like to expand upon the OZ theme, but only with artists who I felt would really put their own distinct imprint on the quartet of characters. Farel is an artist (and writer) whose work I've admired for years. His Pop Gun War graphic novel is brilliant mix of eclectic lushness, both in writing and drawing. Simply put, the guy can flat-out draw!I approached Farel with my OZ idea, and he was more than happy to tackle it. The piece arrived today, and to say that Farel knocked it out of the park would be an understatement. That ball left the yard and is still soaring! The original artwork is just gorgeous, with rich, lush colors, and beautiful pen work. And who, I ask, doesn't like flying monkeys? Farel was great to work with throughout the entire process, incorporating a couple of my suggested changes along the way. He even provided me with process scans of the pencils and inks (seen in this gallery), which I am very thankful for. Thanks Farel! Social/Sharing |

Wonderful work. It made me remember how scary those flying monkeys were when CBS rant the WoO every year! Pencils, inks, or painted, it's a terrific image of the characters.

I love this piece. Completely original and sublime. This belongs in a new printing of Oz. Probably on the cover. Congrats!
