DescriptionThe Joker #6"Sherlock Stalks The Joker" -April 1976 From the DC database: "Clive Sigerson, an actor playing Sherlock Holmes in a theater play, believes he really is the Great Detective when the Joker hits him over the head with a pipe. Accordingly, he sees the Joker as Professor Moriarity, and goes on the hunt for him. The Joker, on the other hand, has set out to recreate some of the most famous crimes solved by the fictional detective and he is delighted to be confronted by the actor. On a couple of occasions, Joker manages to pull the crimes, outsmarting the fake Sherlock Holmes, but the Clown Prince of Crime eventually meets his match when Sherlock finds a vital clue thanks to his assistant, Watson, and captures the Joker for good." This is a time capsule of the 70's! There were more fans of Sherlock Holmes than there were Joker fans back then as the whole YA detective genre was hot with Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Encyclopedia Brown, etc.

I NEVER solved a single Encyclopedia Brown mystery. Argh!! But, I loved 'em!!
I had to borrow from my sister's boyfriend to buy this Joker book. I only had a quarter, so I needed to cover the tax. I fell in love with Irv Novick's artwork on the spot! One of the odd things I found most compelling, was how he handled the henchmen. They really seemed like real guys, trying to make a living working for the freakin' Crown Prince of Crime. I wonder if the Joker had walk-in interviews.

The ol' golf bag net launcher gets em everytime! Wonderful interior and the fact that it is Sherlock Holmes really makes this an even greater comic book moment.
