DescriptionI was delighted to pick up this piece by Zoe at her recent drop. Thorogood's profile as a creator has steadily risen over the last several years. Her most recent book, It's Lonely at the Centre of the Earth, made or topped multiple year-end best-of lists in 2022 and she was nominated for multiple Eisner Awards in 2023.This piece is so evocative of Thorogood's visual strategy and themes; in particular, how she composes a page to reflect the interior states of her characters and to heighten a reader's sense of what those characters are feeling and experiencing. There's a dynamism to Thorogood's visuals that isn't always present in the work of other autobiographical cartoonists. This piece was used for an animated post that Thorogood made on social media: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C_la6rUsVQO/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== Social/Sharing |

interesting piece/proportions, and cool to see the animated version/form of it on her IG in the link! she's talented in multi-faceted ways.

I feel the same way when I see the dishes that need to be done. Sure we all tend to have these feelings, but Zoe is able to put it on paper so well.

A very powerful and evocative piece! The way she looks at us, peering through her fingers like that, it feels like she's burning a hole straight into my soul!

There is a real uneasyness to this piece I find, as the character seems boxed in (crushed?) by the pressure of every day life?

Powerful. Really gives you a sense of being closed in, scared...and making you feel, in any way, which it comes with art is great. Congrats!

Very very nice piece by one of a tiny handful of artists who truly own the zeitgeist. Great all arround.

The design of the page is unique. It is like an modern style illustration. The usually foreground and background rules of proportion are ignored. The background being the little subtleties the nag, and it's combined with other issues brings the sense of despair. Look at her injuries. The details of the kitchen sink add to the skills that Zoe has are exhibited.
