Description

I make no secret of the fact that All-Star Squadron #31 is one of my all-time favourite covers, and it's a layout that I think lends itself to adapting for other characters (in fact, one of my earliest commissions reimagined it using the Invaders, Liberty Legion and a handful of other Marvel/Timely Golden Age characters).

For ages I've thought there must be a way to use it for Marvel's Silver Age heroes, but I kept getting hung up on the assumption that the Angel had to substitute for Hawkman, which meant using all of the original X-Men - and then I started running out of slots for other characters I wanted to use. But a couple of months ago it occured to me that Thor and Mjolnir could stand in for Hawkman and his mace, and it all fell into place.

If you're of my generation, and in the UK, you'll know why "The Mighty World Of Marvel" is a title that brings memories of the Silver Age Marvel flooding back...

From how clean John Howard draw each figure with care and Doctor Strange's facial expression, it looks like Kevin Maguire drew it. A fabulous mix of hard charging hero shots!
