Description

Rafael Boluda Vidal is a Valencian artist. He did art on 2000 AD's 'Rogue Trooper' and 'Tharg's Time Twisters' in the 1980s. In Germany, he was working among others for the Horror Comic Gespenster Geschichten, published by Bastei. Axel F. ''Der Hexer von Bonn'' is a short-lived comic series from Bastei Verlag. Axel F. is a ghost hunter. Maestro Boluda was working on Gespenster Geschichten at the time and probably drew this concept test page for Axel F. series.

The piece gives off such energy like a movie poster! It's like a fish out of water cop story set to an 80's soundtrack.

Marcus, you are a true guru. Based on the extremely popular film BEVERLY HILLS COP and the leading actor Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, as well as the successful soundtrack by Harold Faltermeyers, the makers of the series came up with the name Axel F.
For me it was also brilliant that the filler stories published in Axel F. Magazine were short stories from 2000 AD. Stories by Alan Moore, Gaiman, Alan Hebden, John Wagner, Jamie Delano...etc. What does a young comic reader need in 1988...brilliant, a wild mix.
