Description

A Bruce McCorkindale re-creation of Dave Stevens artwork featuring beauty contest Bettie Page. Pen, brush, ink and Stabilo pencil on 13 X 20" pebble board. The swim suit texture is mostly Stabilo pencil with a little dry-brush shading using a dry, thin Pitt pen.

The Dave Stevens original art for this piece was lost in a sad moving accident. The collector who owned it was moving from one apartment to a new abode and had a friend help him clean out his apartment. The Stevens art was in its original cardboard mailer and the friend thought it was merely garbage to be sent to the dump. Since that time the original has never resurfaced, so it is believed to be destroyed. Bruce seemed to be the right person to attempt its recreation.

The art was used as a promotional card for the Golden Apple comic shop with "10 years" replacing the "Tennessee" on Bettie's sash.

Pretty face and hair, McCorkindale understanding the timeless pin up feel Stevens had brought back.

I did not know the story behind this. Very informative if sad. At least you can look at a nice recreation of the artwork.
