DescriptionWhen I got my first John Pomeroy Secret of NIMH commission, I blamed it entirely on my buddy Will. After all, it was his sterling commission piece which he posted on CAF that got my attention. But as far as this second commission, I have no one to blame but myself. No, wait. You know what? I’m just gonna go ahead and blame this one on Will too! Ha! Not only did he start all of this. But just when I thought I had gotten all this NIMH stuff out of my system, he goes and gifts me an incredible Don Bluth Mrs. Brisby drawing. How could I not be inspired to order a second NIMH commission after that?????
After I got my first one, I of course toyed with the idea of a second. But I wondered what character or characters I might want. With Jeremy being my favorite, I could have easily seen myself getting a series of Jeremy commissions. But as the lead character, it’s actually Mrs. Brisby who we follow throughout the story. It’s her adventure. And while that first commission had all the humor from the scene I chose, I wanted the next one to be more dramatic and exciting. I always thought that Dragon the cat was one of the most visually interesting characters in the movie. So the chase scene with Mrs. Brisby seemed like an obvious choice. As you can see, John absolutely nailed it. I’m not going to sit here and tell you that it came out even better than the first commission. Because it would be insulting to that first piece. But you can see the energy level is really amped up on this one. You can feel the excitement and intensity as the action almost jumps off the page. While I never expected to be disappointed, I have to say that I really didn’t expect to be so blown away TWICE! So if you’re a big fan of this story and this movie, head on over to John’s website and get in touch with Cami. You can get anything from a simple pencil sketch, to something much more elaborate (depending on how much you want to spend). Speaking of which. So this piece was pretty much in line with the first go round. It’s graphite and color pencils on 16 Field animation paper (about 12 x 17). I believe this is the largest format that John works in, but don’t hold me to that. Cami can give you all the particulars, but price will depend on size, medium, and number of characters. The Pomeroy's are great to deal with and I can’t recommend them enough. So thanks again to Cami & John. To my buddy Will for the guidance and initial inspiration. And of course to all of you for stopping by. Social/Sharing |

Cool to see another Pomeroy commission. There's definitely more energy here. If there was a tag line for this piece, it would be... "you'll believe a mouse can fly"

See what you started? You know this is all your fault. Ha! My roundabout way of saying thank you.

Thanks buddy! Considering this latest experience, it wouldn't take much to convince me that great things could also come in 4's or 8's. Haha!

Great result and worth the chance in commissioning! The animation look is all here and color pencils are real strong!

really nice piece and a great experience both from an art standpoint and a customer/process standpoint both times makes it all the sweeter. this film was definately something I used to watch as a kid and it had been likely 2 decades since I thought of it or have seen it, so it's being expedited to near the top of my rewatch soon priority list. congrats!

If I think about sweet memories from childhood cartoons ocupy a very relevant position in those. This very very sweet commission has teleported me to that momentum! I find it very beautiful: Enjoy it my friend as we do!

I remember seeing this film for the first time in elementary school. The part with Nicodemus felt freaky and supernatural. Had a big impact on little me. Congrats on this!

Lovely commission - love the delicate pencils and color work. I need to watch this again - it has been a lifetime since watching!
