DescriptionEvery collector has that 1 cover that instantly transports them back to childhood. This one is mine and takes me back to 1988, a young 8 year old transfixed on all things Spidey. I never thought I would own it. It did take a bit of persistence, but it finally happened. I cannot thank Nick Katradis enough. He didn't need to sell it but he saw the passion that ignites in us all once we begin the journey in this wonderful hobby & was proud to let me be the next care taker of this striking cover. Aside from all the knowledge/history I learn from him on this hobby, even more valuable is that I get to call Nick a good friend.1988, Web of Spider-Man #45 Cover, Alex Saviuk pencils/Frank Giacoia inks, Spider-Man vs: The Vulture!, a great cover drawn by the most under-rated artist of the 1980s Full figured Spidey in a Pieta Virgin Mary pose holding the stewardess with the impending doom of the Sun & vulture on his back. Detailed line work contrast lovely with the negative space. Brilliant overall composition! Social/Sharing |

James, a stunning Spider-Man Web cover by one of the best Spidey artists of the late 80s and early 90s! This cover was one of my Saviuk keepers because it was inked by one of my favorite inkers, Frank Giacoia. But your passion and nostalgia over this cover was so overwhelming and was not to be denied! You burst into comic art collecting with the right perspective and you are hitting the pavement running! As I told you, prudence is required in this hobby because comic art is not a bargain anymore! But when it’s a page that you really “need” on an emotional level, you sometimes have to pounce, you can’t wait because the pain of missing out on it can affect your well-being! First and foremost, this hobby is about nostalgia, and usually it’s the story behind the art which creates its true value! You should always overlook the attraction of “eye candy” art, which is most of today’s crop, for art that was part of a significant or memorable storyline!

Congrats James, and thanks for sharing this beauty. I'd been collecting for nearly 30 issues when this came out; but I rember it fondly as well! Very striking cover!

Sincere congrats, Jimmy! Classic cover you were able to pick up here, and your enthusiasm definitely rings through in your description. Always great to pick up not just a nice piece of art, but one that's personally meaningful. Congrats again!

Great, moody piece by "the" Web of Spidey artist--I like this much more than most of his action covers. And love that it holds such a special place in your collector's heart!

Congrats. Gratification of aquiring comic art that you have a connection to is immensely satisfying. So it seems this happened to you too. ;-)
