Description

My first Art Adams piece! This page is prime, early work (pencils and inks by Art) featuring a "back-in-black" Spidey (he's once again wearing his black "Venom" costume from Secret Wars) with a giant dinosaur creature that looks a lot like Godzilla, a personal favorite character of Art's.

This page is from the story "Wake Me Up I Gotta be Dreaming," published in September 1986 and written by Ann Nocenti.

In March of 1988, Amazing Spider-Man #298 hit the comic spinner racks and it sure looks like Art's style had an influence on Todd McFarlane. For instance, compare the detailed webbing on this page with any Spidey page by Todd. Art first used this webbing design on the cover to Longshot #4 (published in December, 1985). But Art will be the first to tell you he didn't originate the web style, he was influenced by a similar design Michael Golden used on Micronauts.

Congrats on a sweet grab. I love how Adams used the white to differeniate limbs and musculature on the black costume!
