DescriptionHit-Girl from Kick-AssArt by Eranga Devasurendra Commissioned at OAX 2025 Sunday morning of OAX right at the open (after having breakfast with Derek Crabbe and Michael McIsaac nearby) I went over to Eranga's table to request a commission. I also brought him a breakfast pastry, because artists need sustenance! I said no pressure to finish it that day, and sending to me in the mail after OAX was fine. Which is ultimately what had to be done but in a very timely manner after the show (a week and a half or so after the show it was at my door!). Thought it would be fun to have Eranga do a character he had never done before, but also one that I have a personal connection to. I debated over Kick-Ass or Hit-Girl (from Kick-Ass comics), and finally I opted for a Hit-Girl piece when it came time to decide. I said it didn't matter which version or reference of the character he wanted to use for inspiration (early comics, newer comics, the movies etc.). He went with an earlier comics design (good call!) when she's truly still a girl rather than an older teenager or young adult, and he certainly nailed her attitude with the bird flipping (spirit animal status for me!). Love how this came out, thanks Eranga, keep killing it and growing in your artistic journey! You're getting better and better and I'm sure this won't be my last piece from you. Personal connection wise, I have enjoyed the Kick-Ass stories/universe in the comics written by Mark Millar and illustrated by JRJR, and both of the movies that have been made. I personally worked on the Soundtrack to the first Kick-Ass film (which came out in 2010, directed by Matthew Vaughn and starring Aaron Taylor Johnson, Nicholas Cage, Chloe Grace-Mortez, Mark Strong, Christopher Mintz-Plasse aka "McLovin'", and others). I remember seeing early rough cuts of the movie at the Lionsgate studio/offices and seeing the sonic elements of the movie take shape prior to it releasing over time after months of hard work from the great team involved in the project from all sides! The soundtrack was released by Polydor in the UK and by Interscope in the US (I released it for Interscope in the U.S. market). The movie had a successful release, and has gone on to do well in physical media/digital sales in addition to getting a sequel movie made and more recently spin-off movies have been greenlit/announced as well (Stuntnuts Does School Fight) by Matthew Vaughn. Kick-Ass is a modern cult classic superhero movie franchise at this point, which back when I first learned about the franchise through the comics (because we landed the soundtrack project at the time I had no choice but to read them!) I never expected, but was pleasantly surprised! Social/Sharing |

When she flips her one birdie that art gets it’s own damn chart
That Kick Ass art can pump two tons of love through the best

I will forever love Chloe Grace-Moretz for her performance as Hit-Girl, primarily in the first movie. Along with Dafne Keen as X-23, those are my two all-time favourite actor performances out of all the superhero movies in existence. There's something about 12 year old girls getting to play violent little ass kickers that brings the best out of them as actors! A wonderfully illustrated piece, with the water colored background really adding a lot to the overall whole!
