DescriptionThrilled to have this page from Katherine Collins' Neil the Horse. Your eyes will start in the top left corner of the page, go down, then spring back up to the top of the next panel as you follow Neil on his fall into a vat of dough in this page from the "Mr. Coffee Nerves" story in Neil the Horse issue #3 (1983, Aardvark-Vanaheim).Katherine Collins (formerly Arn Saba) staked out a potentially different future for independent comics in the early 80s with her work on Neil the Horse, a comic that tried to translate the bouncy rhythms and lyricism of musical comedy into comics form. Would comics be better if more creators had been inspired by Collins' joyful vision in the early 1980s than Frank Miller? Who can say? Out of print for decades, Neil the Horse was finally collected in 2017, with Collins recognized that same year with a Joe Shuster Award and induction into the Canadian Comic Book Creator Hall of Fame. Read more on Collins and her work at the link below and definitely seek out that Neil the Horse collection if you're looking for a little fun to go alongside your grim and gritty. https://quillandquire.com/authors/katherine-collins-creator-of-the-comic-neil-the-horse-gets-back-in-the-saddle/ Social/Sharing |

Wonderful cartooning in all 4 verticals! It has multi images of Neil in the first two panels to see the velocity in constant progression, but picks up the acceleration in the third and fourth as momentum increases! The cakes and the rising dough in the cake factory makes that image one to savor.

Superior page. Absolutely brilliant cartooning, story telling and draftsmanship. I have never read this series but will give it a shot. Thanks for sharing!

Grim and Gritty DKR is clearly a homage to this. Frank, you thief. A falling figure. What looks like a cape in certain panels and lots of dough. Is Neil Bruce Wayne, Batman or a blend? That explains the dough. Horse Dough. Yum, yum.

This might be the best comment I've ever read.
