Description

Back in the early 1990's, Amazing Heroes magazine released their "Swimsuit Special" issues as a tongue-in-cheek homage to the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues. This charming illustration penciled by Neil Vokes and inked by Adam Hughes features Edsel, Kevin, and Mirth from Matt Wagner's epic series "Mage: The Hero Discovered".

The inscription at the top indicates this was a labor of love for the artists and I think they did justice to Matt Wagner's characters. Some touches I especially enjoy in this one are Edsel holding the bat, Kevin's "magic pattern" swimsuit, and "Vokes and Hughes found guilty of lust" written in the sand in the lower left corner.

A super cool, "apocryphal" addition to your mighty Matt Wagner collection, Jim! A fun document capturing a taste of the 90's in that most venerable of ways: the swimsuit special. Love the shading, zipatone, dark crayon (on the sandcastle?) on this... Super rich visual textures! My favorite little touch is the lightning bolt flag flying on the castle ramparts... :) Fun piece! Congrats, Jim!
