DescriptionMuch like every other story from the mind of Daniel Warren Johnson, The Moon Is Following Us is rooted in impactful emotions & is incredibly heartfelt. This story boils down to one thing, parental love for a child. Sam & Duncan's 6 year old daughter is stuck in a dreamlike state after just not waking up one morning. Modern medicine doesnt provide them with the answers they seek on how to help their child, so enter Tash, a mystical wizard type. He tells them the answers lie within Penny's mind itself and he shows them what they must do, enter the world of Penny's dreams. This page shows Sam & Duncan emerging from Penny's mind with plenty of questions for Tash, namely "Why are you helping us?" His answer is one that once said, is immediately understood and not questioned..."I had a daughter once." What more can really be said about DWJ's approach to storytelling other than to say I feel Sam & Duncan's desperation on this page, I feel Tash's pain. Its all there. Impactful storytelling doesn't need speed lines or dynamic panels. All of the emotions are expertly conveyed with purpose & intent. As a parent of two young children, I have been loving this series. It's a reminder of the immediate and permanent change that occurs when you have a child. Your actions and motivations and who you are as a person are now centered around another. Some of the themes of this story explore what that love does to a person, what it makes them do or makes them capable of. The end results could be bad, they could be good. Exploring those themes has been incredibly engaging! Social/Sharing |

I haven't read this series yet, but between the art and the strong dialogue from DWJ it looks like something more people should be checking out if they haven't already. Glad you are enjoying and have a strong personal connection to it

My gut tells me, much like DWJ's other stories, this will be a much better read once completed. I'm very much looking forward to a complete reread once the last issue comes out! Its a story that just speaks to me, especiallty in this stage of my life.

It's still early in the story and the parents are still in doubt over what the shaman is telling them, but you can see the desperation in the faces and body language! That panel is left open and free of background so you can focus upon it.

I love when he opts to do those kinds of open panels where he lets the characters themselves convey all of the necessary information in that moment.

Glad you're enjoying this series so much and that it's resonating with you as a parent of young children. I'm not a fan of the fantasy/mystical aspect of it, but I may try this out myself someday.

The dreamworld set scenes are really wild, but I also love the characters that populate that world (for some very story specific reasons). Rossmo's style is a perfect fit for those scenes. I'll definetly let you know if it sticks the landing and is indeed a recommendation.

It's been an emotional ride, but I'm still enjoying it. It's only going to be a 10 issue story, so it's not a huge commitment!
