DescriptionIn Georgia on September 2, 1972, the heroin problem was part of a broader national crisis that had begun to take root in urban centers during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Atlanta, in particular, was experiencing a rise in heroin-related arrests and public concern. Law enforcement efforts were intensifying, with police targeting known drug hotspots—often low-income neighborhoods and public gathering areas—where heroin use and street-level dealing were becoming more visible.A notable example from that period is the Traylor v. State case decided later that month, which involved an Atlanta man arrested for heroin possession after a police sweep of a shopping center parking lot known for drug activity and gambling. The case highlighted both the aggressive tactics used by police and the legal challenges surrounding search and seizure laws. Public discourse in Georgia mirrored national anxieties: heroin was increasingly associated with crime, urban decay, and youth disillusionment. The war on drugs was just beginning. But the best weapon was th "Just Say No" campaign. But then again, all those celebrities looked high as hell and kept their weight down with their miracle diets.
