Description

This is my first published interior page. I met John at NYCC in 2023. I think its fitting my first was from John.

I got to speak to John for a good long time at his table.I had brought a couple Astonishing X-Men covers for him to sign if I was luckly enough to catch him at his table. He wasn't taking remarques. He graciously signed the couple of books and we discussed Cyclops at length. He shared how much he adored Cyclops because he represents someone who always has to be in control because of his powers. Scott always has to manage his powers in a way other X-Men don't which makes him stronger than Wolverine (ha, take that everyone!).

Without knowing, he flipped to my favorite page in his run and talked about how much he tried to portray Cyclops' raw power. My OA grails are the two pages he was giving me the rundown on there and then.

I told him how much I loved Cyclops and he went through some of my commissions on my phone, he really liked Darryl Young's cover recreation. While I took back my phone, he took one of the books he had already signed which was a B&W variant. He pulled out a red marker and filled in Scott's visor and with a wry smile said "I gave you a little remarque."

I'm still shocked he's gone. Last year, I was fortunate enough to find/afford this page featuring Scott and Jean together from his run. Jean says to Scott he's only just a man. John may have been just a man, but to me, he was so much more.

If only for a page, things went back to the way they used to be!  Very haunting as Cassaday shows us how fleeting these moments can be.

Agree. This page is so incredible. It's so simple but powerful. The published page is so emotional and was one of the only times John had Scott and Jean together ever. There's not an errant mark on it. It's flawlessly effortless and solid. It's like John drew it exactly as it is. So heartfelt and emotional. It speaks to who Cyclops is as a person and how he's situated within the entire run.

Great page. Did John do a bad page on this run??? The whole run is fantastic. Enlighten me on this bit of your description. Additional info required.  What are they? John never did a bad page throughout the whole run. Every panel, page, cover, and issue is simply phenomenal! It's as everyone can guess, issue 8, pages 18 and 19, wherein Cyclops annihilates the sentinel on the lawn of the mansion (why Scott is still in charge!). John must have had telepathy because he went to those pages without knowing anything about me.

I used to own those pages and know who has them but the guy, who I thought was a friend, turned out to be a gigantic ratbag so will leave it at that.

Great story about a great talent. Was the "raw power" page the one where Cyclops removes his visor and wipes the Sentinel off the side of the mansion?
