DescriptionWhile my first three alphabet pickups are comprised of my favourite Legionnaires (Andromeda, Brainiac 5, and Dream Girl), none of the heroes suggested for G stood out to me. People mentioned Gold Lantern, Gazelle, Gear, Glorith, Gates, Dr. Gym'll, Ganglios, Gim Allon, and Gas Girl, and I didn't really find myself drawn to any of the characters, so I figured I'd have no interest in buying whichever G character Barry went with.Well. I remember opening Facebook to see this masterpiece and being metaphorically smacked in the face with how wrong I was. Gates got the most votes, but I never imagined Barry would create such a breathtaking work of art with him! You almost wouldn't believe the Legion's resident teleporting Communist centipede (THERE'S a concept) could have so much done with him artistically, but just look at this piece! The fact that, with Gates using his powers, it's basically a full-figure piece. The brilliant incorporation of the G being split in half by one of Gates' teleport disks. The way the greens almost seem fluorescent, even in the scan. The way Barry managed to created a sense of depth between the two sets of disks (you can tell Gates and the lower half of the "G" are teleporting closer to the viewer, having started from farther away). The most gorgeous space background I have EVER seen (and I'm quite the avid collector of space backgrounds). And it's another one of Barry's minimal inkwork pieces, meaning that all the "linework" is done solely with watercolours. For a character design as complex as Gates', I think that's really impressive! I have a hard time picking a favourite out of all the alphabet pieces I bought, but this one is definitely in my top three. This is also the first Gates piece in my collection. I'd always figured the first one would come from Moy or Moder, who drew him in the comics, so I love having Barry's version as a more unique example of the character. Social/Sharing |

yeah that space background is really really nice! And the way the character is split/deconstructed to incorporate powers is super cool. This series of illustrations by Kitson turned out really cool overall, looking forward to the rest of what you got

Thanks, Kavi!! I'm hoping all 26 alphabet pieces will end up on CAF at some point. I'm very happy with the ones I managed to snag, and I'm looking forward to sharing them all, too!

Alien Legion indeed!
Ha, clever! I was glad to get a great example of one of the Legion's not-so-humanoid members.
