DescriptionThere weren't many suggestions tossed out for N, but Nemesis Kid and Night Girl were both mentioned. I didn't really have strong thoughts about purchasing either... but then Barry posted his prelim for the Night Girl piece he was painting, and it immediately shot to the top of my must-have list! I loved the pose, the great big moon in the background, and especially Night Girl's expression as she indicates exactly what she's capable of once she's in darkness.A lot of people were apparently hoping for Night Girl with her classic beehive hairdo from the Silver Age, but Barry mentioned that he had already drawn her in that costume, and was using the Legion alphabet as an opportunity to draw characters in costumes he'd never drawn before. I'm certainly not complaining, because this is my personal favourite of her costumes! I think that, of all twenty-six alphabet pieces, Night Girl in the finished painting looks the most like a character Barry might have drawn in a comic in the 90s, which is my favourite period of his art. Lydda here would be right at home in the pages of L.E.G.I.O.N.! This is another one of my top three favourites from the alphabet series, I think. The colours are just gorgeous - I love the dark blue used to shade her costume and hair, the greyish blue used for the background, and especially all the colours that Barry used to paint the moon. It's a staple of Barry's newer work to use a bunch of multidirectional hatch lines to do large-scale shading, and I think it's used to great effect for Lydda's cape. You also have to appreciate some of the very tiny blue highlights that were used to keep her arm and legs defined even with her all-black costume. I'm very glad I had the chance to pick up the prelim for this piece, too! I love the finished product so much, but Barry gave her a softer, kinder expression in that one. I think it still works beautifully, but I also really like the cockier expression he gave her in the prelim, which I think suits the "showing off" pose very well. Social/Sharing |

Very nice! Can't beat that really strong pose/attitude on Night Girl, and the various different shades of blue playing off the elements of black in the costume/hair are done so nicely. The hatching on the interior of the cape within the costume adds a lot of depth to it as well. And that moon/night sky looks great back there, even gives me a little Frazetta/Vampirella kinda vibes. Great one from the Legion Alphabet series!

Dammit, Marcus, that is the perfect song choice. I had to sit there in awe for a bit. Handily done!

I loved that costume!
It's such a good costume! I love the linked belt and the unique way the cape folds over her shoulders.
