This was a very special and unique commission request that started with Philip Tan - who did the original pencils and inks. The inspiration was my love for all things X-Men and being a HUGE fan of John Byrne. I asked Philip to pay homage to the classic Byrne cover for FF #249, but instead of the FF - I asked him to add my favorite X-Men. Tan crushed it, of course; but it was Steve's colors that really brought the piece to life. Steve was incredibly flexible and supportive to collaborative feedback, and the end result was spectacular!
