Judge Dredd in 2000 A.D. comics is a touchstone of my adolescence. But even more than Mega-City One's greatest law enforcer it was Judge Death and Judge Cassandra Anderson of the Psi-Division that really captured my imagination - especially the John Wagner and Alan Grant stories illustrated by Brian Bolland.

Since my art collecting has narrowed to focus around Death of the Endless, I needed a way to bring her into the 2000 A.D. universe to justify a mash-up this far astream of the Sandman comics. That said, there would have been no Vertigo comics had those creators not first worked on back-up strips for IPC and Fleetway, so it seemed intuitive to have Judge Death be the vessel to combine worlds.

After seeing Yevgeny's take on Judge Dredd, I knew he would be the one to commission, so I requested a three-character piece that integrated Judge Anderson, Judge Death, and Death of the Endless and left the composition up to him. He provided a few preliminary sketches (swipe left) for me to choose from and then ran with the one I selected. The final piece is an edge-to-edge masterpiece, and he even snuck Dredd into it -among many other casualties. I love the hoodie, which straddles the line between Cyberpunk and contemporary Goth, and I feel like I got a fourth character with Matthew the Raven perched under the umbrella with Death.

This is absolutely phenomenal. What an incredible piece! Yevgeny's line work is insanely detailed and atmospheric, perfectly capturing the eerie tension between Judge Anderson, Judge Death, and Death of the Endless. The composition is really strong, too. I love that Yevgeny understands line weight. He also creates many different textures with his lines, which also helps separate everything. Many commission artists who put in this much detail don't understand that, and the background, middleground and foreground all blend together with no separation between them, in a cacophany of mindless detail. This piece is a powerhouse tribute to both 2000 AD and Sandman mythology. I'm so glad you and Yevgeny connected!

It's so good, they had to pick it before you even posted it! I can see Yevgeny being recruited to draw in 2000AD with illustration being his specialty!

A bold crossover between the worlds of 2000 AD and Sandman, love the idea for the concept in general, and the highly detailed illustration/vision from Yevgeny more than delivered on the assignment. Great work!

What a magnificent and extraordinary work of art! Yevgeny Sokolov is another Artist that I didn't know until today, I instantly become a fan of his from now on. The quality of this illustration is sublime, one of the best I've ever come across on the Internet. I like both Characters, they are beautiful and interesting with excellent stories in their respective universes.
