Description

In honor of James Gunn's Superman opening this week, an early, over-sized Superman page from 1954.

This fun interior by prolific series artist Al Plastino, showcases the Man of Steel using his powers to save Lois Lane from a runaway robot. Plastino depicts Superman in his barrel-chested, thick-waisted design of the dynamic post-WWII period -- an aspect indelibly associated with colleague Wayne Boring's previous art style on Superman.

Plastino is a much overlooked Golden Age artist. I love the work he did on Superman!

I love heroes using their ingenuity to expand on their powers, finding creative solutions to problems. And I certainly prefer when they narrate them as they happen. Wonderful time capsule from an awesome era of Superman.
